Star Alliance" carriers align their booking classes
Effective December 4, 2000, Lufthansa, United Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines will use the same booking classes for reservations and ticketing. All other Star Alliance carriers will follow within 2001.
The implementation of common booking classes for itineraries involving multiple Star Alliance carriers will make it easier in the future to calculate fares, prearrange check-in and seating, and manage accumulation and redemption of frequent flyer miles.

Star Alliance European Airpass now available
Passengers planning travel within Europe should look for the new, low fares available with the Star Alliance European Airpass. The Airpass must be purchased prior to departure from the U.S., in conjunction with a round-trip transatlantic ticket in restricted Economy Class on any Star Alliance carrier, and it must be issued separately from the transatlantic ticket itself. The Star Alliance European Airpass allows a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 10 coupons on Star Alliance carriers and selected Lufthansa regional partners within IATA Europe. The cost for each coupon is based on the mileage distance of the flight leg flown and ranges from $60 to $220. For more information about the Airpass, call Lufthansa at 800 645-3880.

Lufthansa provides on-line service for lost baggage
Lufthansa's new website address at baggage.lufthansa.com takes the frustration out of waiting for lost baggage to turn up. The site allows passengers to monitor the search for their baggage and to communicate on-line with Lufthansa's investigation department. The first step, as in any search for lost baggage, takes place at the airport of arrival by filing a report at the Lufthansa Lost and Found counter. Passengers can then follow-up on the site by entering their reference number and name. Up to 99 different pieces of information about each piece of lost luggage can be tracked. Thankfully, very few Lufthansa passengers will ever have to use this lost baggage technology as the airline reports only .4% of its 40 million passengers a year lose their baggage, and 95% of all lost baggage is located easily within five days.

Munich Airport now Germany's second largest hub
The rapidly expanding Munich Airport (MUC) is now Germany's second largest hub airport after Frankfurt (FRA). Currently, 220 flights take off from Munich on a daily basis, serving over 50 destinations in Europe alone. And the number of flights and destinations served keeps growing. For Lufthansa passengers, Munich is therefore fast becoming a very viable alternative gateway to Germany, Europe and beyond. Lufthansa operates four daily nonstop flights to Munich - from San Francisco, Chicago, New York/Newark as well as from Los Angeles as of March 25, 2001. Also, United Airlines, a Star Alliance member, operates daily flights from Washington (Dulles). Connections via Munich are fast, with a minimum connection time of 35 minutes plus, distances between gates are minimal due to the proximity of the Lufthansa and Star Alliance terminals. Longer connection times are eased by the many comfortable lounges and the variety of shopping options in the gate area.

Lufthansa declared best on-time hub carrier in Europe
A recent report, which rates the punctuality of European carriers operating out of their hubs, places Lufthansa in the No. 1 spot for on-time performance at our Frankfurt hub.
Lufthansa has improved its rating at Frankfurt by 21% since August 1999, due largely to the airline's "On-time Initiative", which identifies punctuality as a top goal for Lufthansa airport and cabin personnel.
Lufthansa's service to its second German hub, Munich, followed very close behind Frankfurt's first place, coming in third place overall.
